Top Google Adwords Tips
We have already covered some of the basics of pay per click, here are a few very specific tips to help you with your Google Adwords campaign. 1. There are 8 ads displayed on each results page, being at or nearer the top will get you more traffic (clicks) but not necessarily a better ROI (return on investment) because you may need to pay x2 to x5 times the price per click to be there. it is unlikely that our conversion rate will improve by this factor. 2. Testing and monitoring your ads is critical to your success, make sure that you get into this good habit right from the start. 3. If you are using many keywords create as many new ad groups as you need so that each ad is very specific to, and contains the key word. This has been shown to attract more clicks. 4. Solid key word research is the foundation for success with any PPC campaign. Make sure that you spend sufficient time on this before starting. 5. When adding your site URL (not the referral URL) there is no need to write http://www.example.com, Google excepts just Example.com, which I believe looks better. 6. Don't use single words, they are too generic and are very hard to maintain the required 0.05% click through ratio 9CTR). 7. If your ads are getting a good CTR but no sales try using a negative modifier to help qualify prospects. A good one is to include the price, people expecting something for free will not bother clicking. Also try to sort between home/business, amateur/professional, male/female etc, if relevant to your product. 8. Typical conversion rates (ratio of clicks to sales) for many products is around 0.05% to 2%. Because of this you need to let your ads run for a sufficiently long time in order to get a good statistical average. 9. Start your campaigns in English and in the USA, UK, Australia etc only. Expand the reach of your ad when you know that your campaign is profitable. If you can't make a profit in these markets it is unlikely that sending ads to counties where the native language is not English will improve ROI. 10. A good headline is critical, make sure that you read some basic copy writing guides to give you some ideas. 11. Google does not except referral links sites that either open or close with a popup. Don't waste your time and even bother trying to use these sites. Make sure that you don't have a popup killer on your PC otherwise you won't know this. 12. You will probably have a better ROI with higher cost items or those that pay a higher commission. If you only earn $10-20 commission per sale it maybe hard to make your campaign profitable, unless you use advanced tactics. 13. Avoid bidding wars with other advertisers to gain a higher position in the listings. Higher positions can be gained for free by achieving a higher CTR. Google rewards ads with a higher CTR because it means that they are more relevant to the key words used for the search. This helps preserve the integrity of the search engine which is absolutely very important to Google. This spend your time testing new ads, not increasing bids. 14. Remember the old well worn advertising formula: AIDA
But remember that you need to accomplish this in just 3 lines, just 25 characters for the headline then two lines of copy with just 35 characters each. Focus on benefits rather than features. People buy what makes them rich, happy or solves a problem. 15. Take advantage of the 4 word matching features that Google offers. There will be a big difference in search results between: nokia cell phone "nokia cell phone" [nokia cell phone] -nokia cell phone Learn more about this feature here. 16. The best way to learn more about Google Adwords and how to be successful with them is to invest a good guide. The cost will easily be covered by what you will NOT lose in your very 1st campaign.
