Alexa Rating
The Alexa rating for this site (for what it's worth) is shown below. The Alexa rating is supposed to be an indicator of how much traffic a site gets, the actual number is supposed to be how your site ranks in the whole of the internet. So if your ranking is 55,000 your site is supposed to be the 55,000 most visited site on the internet. The rating is calculated dynamically using votes from the Alexa tool bar that many people have installed on their PC. Every time they visit a site a vote is sent back to Alexa. When this page was written the actual rating was 52,016 which I guess is not bad! I achieved this traffic by using some of the tools from this site Search Engine Traffic Tools However a lot of people take the rating with a pinch of salt as there are claims that it is open to manipulation. For example if you install the tool bar on your own PC and ask all your friends to do the same and then visit your site many times a day your rating will go up. However you would need to do this continually because the voting is calculated continuously so as soon as you stopped and your friends got bored your rating would eventually sink back down. It is said that the rating is more accurate and less open to manipulation the more traffic your site has (lower Alex number). This is because obviously if a site has say 10,000 genuine hits a day it is quite difficult to generate a significant number of fraudulent hits to effect the rating. The figure that I've read is that if the rating is below 15,000 if is quite accurate, and anything above 500,000 is open to manipulation.
