Web Site Templates - Frontpage - Dreamweaver - CSS
If you are just starting out on your 1st web site design one of the problems that you face is deciding just how to get started, especially if you are not from a web design back ground, and that probably covers most people. For most people in the affiliate or internet marketing business the option of paying a web design person or company to make every change that you need is simply not feasible or practical. Once you have 2 or three web sites the chances are that you will me making changes, additions, corrections etc on a daily business. Asking someone else to make these will incur major negatives: a huge time delay, a lot of additional time and effort just spent preparing and transferring the information and last, but not least, it will be expensive as these people will work on at least a $50 hourly rate. From the very start of your affiliate or internet marketing business you should make the decision that you are going to learn at least the basics of HTML coding and web design. The good news is that it is really not that difficult to get started, especially if you are familiar with Microsoft Office tools such as Word. The easiest way to get started is to buy a web site template. A template is basically a "blank" web site that contains 3-10 pages. Although the template is blank it usually contains place holders for various pieces of information so all that you need to do is edit the pages and enter your own information. If you need to add more pages or delete some this is easy to do as well, the templates should come with basic instructions on how to do these operations. The edit the template you will need some form of HTML editor. Some web experts will try and tell you that you can do all this using a free tool like MS word pad or a simple txt editor, but I would not recommend that route, if ever, until you are something of an expert. There are two main tools available for the small business affiliate or internet marketer, these are MS Front Page and Dream Weaver. My preference is for Frontpage and this site has been designed using that tool. Pro's tend to recommend Dream Weaver for technical reasons. Frontpage is from MS and much of the look and feel of MS Word is incorporated into it, which makes it easy to lean. It is also cheaper to buy (around $180 against $330 for Dream Weaver). When hunting for a web site template after deciding to using Frontpage for example, make sure that you search for "frontpage templates' and check that they have been designed for that tool before buying. One of the catch's to look out for that some of the template sellers try to pull, is in the small print, where they state that the template is a "one off license". In other words when you buy the template you are licensed to use it on one website design only (one domain). They usually offer a deal for 5 or 10 off licenses at a discount. Not all sellers do this so you need to be aware. When choosing a web site template you need to be aware of the key design features that are important, read more about web site design features. If you are really serious about your affiliate or internet marketing business, and intend to build many sites, there are another couple of options. First you could commission a web site designer to design a template to your specifications making sure that it is fast loading, has the right navigation structure, looks good etc. You would then own the template design and could use it as often as required without any further license fee's. You could even sell it as a product through Clickbank. If you shop around there are many web design companies that will design a 3-5 page web site for anything from $199 and up. Another route to take is to buy a template and then modify it yourself sufficiently, using Frontage for example, such that it can no longer be considered the copyright of the original designers. Whatever route you decide to take, when using a template make sure that you get the template exactly right, and exactly the way you want it to look, before you start to use it. Otherwise there is a lot of re-work involved when going back to make changes on 10, 20, 50 or 100 pages!. See also Web Site Design and Web Site Hosting
